Gail Slater, the head of the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) antitrust division, has announced her resignation on Thursday. In a heartfelt post on the social platform X, she expressed her sadness and hope as she steps down from her role as AAG for Antitrust.

Slater has been a key figure in the DOJ’s antitrust division for the past two years, leading the department’s efforts to enforce antitrust laws and promote competition in the marketplace. During her tenure, she has been a strong advocate for fair and open competition, working tirelessly to protect consumers and businesses from anti-competitive practices.

In her post, Slater reflected on her time as AAG for Antitrust, saying, “It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as the head of the DOJ’s antitrust division. I am proud of the work we have accomplished and the impact we have made in promoting competition and protecting consumers.”

Under Slater’s leadership, the DOJ has taken on high-profile cases such as the merger between AT&T and Time Warner, as well as the ongoing investigation into tech giants like Google and Facebook. Her dedication to upholding antitrust laws has earned her respect and admiration from her colleagues and industry experts alike.

Slater’s resignation comes at a critical time for the DOJ’s antitrust division, as the department continues to face challenges in the rapidly evolving digital landscape. However, she remains optimistic about the future of the division, stating, “I have full confidence in the talented team at the DOJ’s antitrust division and their ability to continue the important work of promoting competition and protecting consumers.”

Slater’s departure has been met with an outpouring of support and gratitude from her colleagues and peers. Attorney General William Barr praised her for her “outstanding leadership and dedication to the mission of the DOJ’s antitrust division,” while industry leaders have commended her for her unwavering commitment to promoting a fair and competitive marketplace.

Slater’s resignation also serves as a reminder of the importance of having strong and independent leaders in government agencies. Her departure highlights the need for the DOJ to quickly find a suitable replacement who will continue to uphold the department’s mission and values.

As Slater moves on to the next chapter of her career, she leaves behind a legacy of excellence and a strong foundation for the DOJ’s antitrust division to build upon. Her passion and dedication to promoting competition and protecting consumers will be greatly missed, but her impact will continue to be felt for years to come.

In her closing statement, Slater expressed her gratitude to her colleagues and the American people, saying, “I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as AAG for Antitrust and for the support and encouragement I have received along the way. I am confident that the DOJ’s antitrust division will continue to thrive and make a positive impact under new leadership.”

As we bid farewell to Gail Slater, we thank her for her service and wish her all the best in her future endeavors. Her contributions to the DOJ’s antitrust division will not be forgotten, and her legacy will continue to inspire those who strive for a fair and competitive marketplace.
