On June 7, 2024, in the city of Lubango, located in Huíla province, a ceremony took place to present the certificate for the demined area along the 400 kV Huambo – Lubango electricity transmission line.
The event was attended by key officials, including the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges; the Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants, and Veterans of the Homeland, João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade; the Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Carlos; the Vice-Governor of both Huíla and Huambo; and the representative of the African Development Bank for Angola and São Tomé, along with other ministry representatives and guests.
During the ceremony, Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade expressed his thanks to the Ministry of Energy and Water for their dedication, which made the event possible, and highlighted the importance of the occasion. Minister João Baptista Borges also acknowledged Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade’s contributions, which were vital to the success of the ceremony. He further stressed the importance of demining in facilitating the project’s progress.
The Minister emphasized that the primary goal is to enhance energy capacity to meet the region’s needs. He praised the demining efforts, recognizing their essential role in the success of various electrification initiatives nationwide. Additionally, the Minister noted that the Huambo to Lubango transmission line project will create many job opportunities for young people, which he considered highly important.
The event also included the symbolic handover of a vehicle to the on-site demining team.
It’s important to mention that the construction of the 400 kV Huambo-Lubango Electricity Transmission Line will be executed in two phases, covering a total distance of 343 km.
